Amazon Prime Day 2020 is officially live with deals through the end of today, October 14. As one of Amazon’s flagship products, we expected to see lots of great deals on every ebook reader in the Kindle line, and Amazon delivered in a big way.
Multiple Kindle devices top our list of the best ereaders, and all of our top picks are currently selling for the lowest prices we’ve seen. Our top pick, the Kindle Oasis, is $75 off. Our pick for the best midrange ereader, the Kindle Paperwhite, is $50 off. And our budget pick, the basic Kindle, is $30 off.
The Kindle Kids Edition is also currently discounted to $75 from $110, a $35 savings and a new all-time low. This version includes a yearlong subscription to Amazon Kids+ and a protective cover of your choosing. Plus, you can save on bundles that include a power adaptor and a productive cover as well as ebooks and Kindle Unlimited subscriptions.

The best Amazon Prime Day Kindle bundle deals
If you want to get a case and a power adapter for your new Kindle, you may want to grab a bundle. You can get $50 off the typical street price of the Kindle Paperwhite Essentials bundle and $50 off the Kindle Kids Edition Essentials bundle right now. The Paperwhite Essential Bundle adds a leather cover and a power adapter for charging, while the Kindle Kids Edition Essential Bundle comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, as well as a cover, screen protector, and charger.

Readers can also get a $5 ebook credit when they buy select Kindle devices, and Prime members can claim two free Kindle ebooks from a select list before October 31.
Amazon is also offering one free month of Kindle Unlimited to new subscribers, or Prime members can get three free months if they purchase a six-month Kindle Unlimited subscription for $30; a 50% discount on the standard price.
How to shop for a Kindle or an ereader
When shopping for the best Kindle or ereader, start by figuring out how frequently you plan to use it, and where. If you only plan to use your Kindle casually at home, you might not need to pay more for the Paperwhite’s extra features like backlighting and water resistance.
Personally, I’d always recommend buying your Kindle without ads for $20 more; the savings feel good at purchase but the long-term annoyance of uncontrollable ads on your home screen is a steep price to pay.
If you don’t spend a ton of time reading already, you may want to download the free Kindle app and try downloading a few ebooks to read on your phone or another device to see how comfortable you are. You may realize you’re just fine without a dedicated reading device, or maybe you want a bigger color screen for comic books and magazines, like the Fire HD 10 tablet.
Kindle Unlimited offers a ton of magazines and ebooks at a tempting price, but think about whether you’ll have time to dig into all of that material before you invest in the subscription.
Also, keep in mind that Kindle is Amazon’s brand of ereader, but it’s not the only one out there. For example, Kobo earned top marks in our buying guide with its large screen and water-resistant models.

During Prime Day, Amazon is running a promo for Prime members: When you spend $40 or more on Amazon gift cards, you can get a credit of $10 in your account. Amazon gift cards can be used for Kindle ebooks in addition to all products sold on Amazon. When is Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day 2020 runs on October 13 and 14. Retailers will continue to post new deals all Prime Day, and Business Insider will be covering them all on our Prime Day hub.
Prime Day deals are exclusive to Amazon Prime subscribers, so you’ll need to sign up to get these Kindle discounts. Amazon Prime normally costs $13 per month or $120 per year, but new users can get their first 30 days of Prime with full benefits, for free.
