J.Lo breaks silence about infamous snub

Opening up in a candid new interview, JLo herself admits being omitted from the list “stung”, but gave her an opportunity to put things into perspective.The megastar and mum-of-two said while she was disappointed by the snub, she ultimately realised she isn’t in showbiz for the accolades.

Speaking to Allure Magazineas the publication’s current cover star, Lopez recalled production partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas sharing a list of all the awards nominations she earned for her role as Ramona, based on former adult entertainer Samantha Barbash, in the 2019 film.“When it came to the Oscars, it was so obviously absent. It was a sting,” Lopez said.It came after she was widely predicted to receive a best supporting actress nod off the back of Screen Actors Guild, Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe nominations. “I was like, ‘Okay, when you’re supposedly in everybody else’s mind supposed to be nominated and you’re not, what does that mean? Is it really real? Are the other ones real and this one isn’t?’” Lopez said of her initial thoughts after the Oscar snub. “It came to a point where I was like, ‘This is not why I do this. I don’t do this to have 10 Oscars sitting on my mantel or 20 Grammys.’“I think my life is about more than awards,” she added.Best supporting actress went to Laura Dern in 2020 for her role in Marriage Story.

Previously, the star has said she felt like she “let everyone down” after missing out on a nomination.“There were so many articles. I got so many good notices – more than ever in my career – and there was a lot of ‘She’s going to get nominated for an Oscar. It’s going to happen; if she doesn’t, you’re crazy,’”she shared on stage at The Forum in Los Angeles for Oprah’s 2020 Vision tour.“I’m reading all the articles going, ‘Oh my god, could this happen?’ And then it didn’t and I was like, ‘Ouch’. It was a little bit of a let-down.“Most of my team has been with me for years — 20, 25 years — and I think they had a lot of hopes on that and they wanted it, too. So I felt like I let everyone down a little bit,” she said.

Speaking to Allure this week, Lopez said her focus is on entertaining to inspire and empower her audience – the most obvious example being her iconic 2020 Super Bowl performance alongside Shakira.“The Super Bowl was really about showing what I could do to a bigger, broader audience than ever,” she said of the show. “The idea was to show the best of, not just myself as an artist, but the best of women, the best of Latinos. I felt that I represented Latinos, I represented women, and I represented people in my age group in a light that was very positive and strong.”
Lopez also stunned fans during her performance at the Biden-Harris Inauguration, making history as she spoke Spanish on stage.

As for her acting career, she’s set to appear next in Marry Me opposite Owen Wilson and Shotgun Wedding, which waswas set to co-star Armie Hammer The actor has dropped out of the project amid his online sex scandal and disturbing allegations against him. Josh Duhamel will star opposite Lopez instead.
