Country life suiting the Crawfords

The family moved to northern New South Wales last year with former Hawks champion Crawford commuting between there and Melbourne for work. She says the move was necessary after seeing the effects of lockdown on the children — Charlie, Jack, Ben and Harry.“It feels safe and healthy and we don’t live in fear they won’t be at school,’’ Anderson said.“It was just hard for their mental health for so long. “COVID made you reassess how we’re living and what you want.“It probably seemed a bit dramatic but it was the right thing to do.”Anderson said the sea change was still a novelty but for Crawford, who is currently filming Australian Ninja Warrior, it was a logical move given he grew up in Finley in New South Wales and understood the benefits.“The slow life is suiting us all well,’’ she said.“I’ve worn the same outfit for six months — thongs and a denim skirt. We go to the beach every day.“I miss my friends and there’s nothing like Melbourne so it’s a compromise, but it was now or never. “We’re not making any permanent decisions but he’s (Shane) from the country and has been there in Melbourne since he was 17.“We have no nannies and we always make sure Shane or I are with the kids. “We don’t know anyone other than my family so Shane’s got so much quality time with the boys.“It was just good for us.”Anderson is also lending her support to the Good Friday Appeal after one of her nine year-old twins, Harry, spent some time in the Royal Children’s Hospital as a baby.“It’s a place no one wants to go but when you go there’s nowhere you’d rather be,’’ she said.“Gradually he wasn’t holding his food and he was only four weeks old. If we hadn’t got onto it so fast he could have been a very sick little boy.”jackie.epstein@news.com.au
