Matt Gudinski takes charge of Mushroom Group

Matt Gudinski said in a statement on Friday: “This isn’t a role that I expected to assume yet, but I am determined to honour the great legacy my father left. Mushroom Group is in its strongest position ever and as we fast approach our 50th year I know that our incredibly talented Mushroom family will help me deliver the vision Dad and I had for the next 50 years of our business.” Michael Gudinski, who built the Mushroom Group — a record, touring and publishing empire — died suddenly on March 2.He was honoured at state memorial in Melbourne with tributes from Bruce Springsteen, Sir Elton John, Billy Joel, Ed Sheeran, Kylie Minogue, Sting, and many other superstars. Most recently, Matt Gudinski held the role of Mushroom Group executive director from 2013. In the eight years following, Matt and Michael worked side-by-side at the helm of Australia’s most powerful independent entertainment group, overseeing over 250 employees and two dozen companies. He was involved in label and touring divisions while overseeing change in music publishing and artist management. At his father’s state memorial, Matt said: “Dad was never going to slow down and stop working. He always wanted to go out on top. It was a key thing he said all the time. And he really went out on top. “He was in the finest form of his life, the peak of his powers, dare I say, and sadly left us with so much more to offer.”Matt added: “He was my father, my brother, my closest life confident, champion, life motivator, and most importantly best friend. We shared an indescribable bond which will remain and live deeply within me forever.“We plotted, planned, celebrated, laughed, cried, yelled, screamed and loved everything we did together.”
