Channel 7 filmed guests at the Hotel Grand Chancellor passing items over neighbouring balconies on Thursday.One man could be seen grabbing something from another guest staying in the room to his right. He was then filmed walking across his balcony to give something to another guest staying in a room on his left. The guests were given formal warnings and could face longer periods in quarantine if they continued to flout restrictions.They also faced on-the-spot fines of up to $1,334.The shocking footage comes as health authorities in NSW and WA investigate virus leaks in quarantine hotels after three separate incidents this week of guests becoming infected by other guests.The latest breach was revealed in Perth on Thursday — where two people contracted the virus while quarantining.They caught the virus from guests across the hall, forcing the WA Health Department to track down, test and isolate others who have recently quarantined on the same floor of the city hotel.Meanwhile NSW authorities were investigating whether COVID-19 had spread inside a second Sydney quarantine hotel after three returned travellers from two families tested positive for the same viral sequence of virus first identified in South Africa.The guests were staying in adjacent rooms on the 10th floor at the Mercure Hotel on George Street in Sydney’s CBD.It was the second instance of potential hotel quarantine transmission in Sydney announced within days, after authorities confirmed on Sunday that a family of three appeared to have caught COVID-19 while quarantining at the Adina Apartment hotel.anthony.piovesan@news.com.au
