‘Critical’ detail in 2 new Qld cases

The new infections, linked to known clusters, were already in forced isolation and didn’t test positive until day 12 of their stay-at-home order.Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told reporters “we are not worried about any of them” in relation to the pair’s threat to the community, but chief health officer Jeannette Young said it provided a crucial warning to those asked to quarantine.“There is no risk at all with those two individuals,” Dr Young said on Tuesday. “But it does prove that it doesn’t matter how many negative tests you get, you can go up to that 14 days incubation period (and) still test positive.“It is really important you do not leave home quarantine until you get that negative test and you are told that you are able to leave because that is absolutely critical, and I thank everyone who is doing that for that 14 days.”The top doctor was quizzed if the positive infection being revealed on day 12 meant the testing process was flawed, but Dr Young said she was “very confident” in the decision to test two days before the stay-at-home order expired.“We also do a day 16 test and we ask people in the days they leave quarantine to be careful what they do in those two days, that was the decision made at AHPPC (Australian Health Protection Principal Committee) just for extra confidence,” Dr Young said.“Because if we do a day 14, they wouldn’t get their results back for another day or two and that would mean the quarantine period would be extended.“So we test day 12, get a negative result, then they can leave quarantine day 14 and then we do another test on day 16.”
