The couple met the families during a visit to the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, where they also spoke with servicemembers and had lunch with military families.“As we honour and reflect on Remembrance Day in the UK, which shares a date with Veterans Day here in the US, my hope is for all of us to continue to support the wellbeing and recognise the value of our troops, veterans, and the entire military and service family. We and they are better for it,” Prince Harry said in a statement on their Archwell Foundation website. As part of the visit, Harry and Meghan visited a classroom where children were learning English, and spoke to several pupils. They revealed that their two-year-old son Archie’s favourite song was Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, which they were told was a favourite of the students’.The couple then both stood out the front of the class and led the children in an impromptu singalong. The Afghan refugees are staying as guests on the base, where they are housed in a compound called Liberty Village – a nod to Task Force Liberty, which was launched in August when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan. The task force was set up to support Afghan evacuees arriving in the US.Harry and Meghan’s visit comes on the eve of a Remembrance Day service in the UK today, which is expected to be attended by the Queen. It will be her public appearance at a Remembrance Day event. She did not attend the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, although the Royal Family was well represented, with guests including Prince William and Kate, as well as Prince Charles and Camilla. The festival pays tribute to those who lost in their lives in conflicts. This year also marks 100 years since collective national Remembrance traditions were first organised by the Royal British Legion.
