Revealed: Posh boys’ junior school Covid cluster

But leaders at St Kevin’s College Toorak’s Glendalough junior school campus say the outbreak is “no great surprise” as its students are unable to get vaccinated.The college has 19 students from years one to six isolating after they tested positive to the virus.The campus on Lansell Rd has had a total of 23 confirmed cases in the past three weeks, with four students having recovered and returned to school.DHHS data showed a cluster of 10 active cases had been confirmed as of December 1.In a letter to parents on November 29, the campus’ director James Daly said the school understood each impacted student had only mild symptoms of the virus.“We are grateful for this and for the healthcare available to us, and we extend these students our best wishes as they continue their recovery,” he wrote.“We continue to implement COVIDSafe practices such as wearing of face masks, use of hand sanitiser, social distancing, daily touch point cleaning, staggered finish times and designated collection points.”Mr Daly said the cluster of cases was “no great surprise given that children under 12 years of age cannot, as yet, be vaccinated.”He said any student displaying Covid-like symptoms on campus was treated by the school nurse and isolated from other students until they could be collected by a parent.Mr Daly said the school was remaining “agile and responsive in implementing COVIDSafe measures to events and activities” until classes finished for 2021 on Friday.
