Newman was signed up last week by sneaky mates to a dating app and the 76-year-old Geelong footy club great found plenty of potential favour among the blue rinse set after a profile was unknowingly created in his name.“I had no idea this was happening. They put my age in and it immediately starts linking you to people in your area around the same age,” he said.“My first date was going to be a woman in Upper Ferntree Gully in a retirement village who was 80 because I am 76.“And all these people between 75 and death came up with the app saying these are your compatible partners.”Newman shut the profile down after retrieving his phone.“A friend of mine took my phone and put me on a dating app,” Newman explained, going on to describe the experience as akin to being “hacked”.“I did not sign up to it. Someone else put my details in and the next thing I know I am getting a message saying thanks for giving us your details.“I would not know how to download the app. I am not on it. I am not activated.“Thank god the person who did get hold of my phone did not go the whole hog and finish the sign up,” Newman told his You Cannot Be Serious podcast audience.
