The GALAX GeForce RTX 4090 SG is a mighty card with lots of power and lots of punch under its hood. The massive 3.5 slot cooler might be a bit too big for most PCs out there but it cooled the GPU really well, so much so that we never saw the temps surpass 60C. With the added 1-clip fan, you can shave off an additional 2 degrees off your card for better cooling or you can use some of that extra headroom to overclock the graphics card which would provide you with a decent few percentile gains in FPS.
The power draw of the GALAX GeForce RTX 4080 SG is very nice. The card was running around 250 Watts while gaming and peaked at a little over 300W. At the same time, the card was delivering up to 20-40% gain in performance over the RTX 3090 Ti and we know just how ferocious the 3090 Ti is, sipping over 450W of power while gaming. More importantly, the fourth fan doesn’t produce a lot of noise and even with the booster installed, the card still runs super silent, that is unless you set the fans manually to a higher RPM which can lead to higher noise output but also cooler GPU operation.
The ARGB header on the back is definitely a plus and easy to reach rather than having it on the side of the card and the whole design aesthetic looks well-made. The aluminum backplate gives a more premium feel and the front and sides with the various RGB LEDs just look phenomenal. The add-on Obelisk stand is definitely an accessory that you should put to use since the card is a beast of a unit. My overall impressions of the GALAX GeForce RTX 4080 SG are very positive. If you are in the market for an RTX 4080 graphics card, you should definitely consider it as an option which sits close to the MSRP of $1199 US.
