Charging speed on any Android phone is an important aspect. However, the one thing that is always up for debate is just how quick fast charging should be. The recent OnePlus 11 debuted with 100W charging speed, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra can go as high as 45W. You’d think these numbers are pretty small, but any normal user would be more than happy with just a 45W charging speed. Realme certainly doesn’t think the same way because the company has just debuted a phone with 240W charging speed.
Realme feels the need for speed as the company introduces a new phone with 240W fast charging
The latest Realme GT Neo 5 is the phone that has launched with 240W fast charging. For some reason, the company also launched another variant with 150W charging speed, but we are still not sure why one would want such a fast speed in the first place.
I normally put my phone on charge before going to bed, and by the time I have done my nightly ritual, my phone’s topped off, and I’m ready to go back to bed. Sometimes when I do forget, I charge it in the morning before heading out. I have never really felt I needed more than 45W, and mind you, I had just started using a 45W charger because, before that, I was happy with 25W.
Sure, 240W fast charging is impressive feet, but I am more concerned about its effect on the battery’s health. Of course, the faster the charging speed, the more wattage goes through the battery and ultimately starts deteriorating the battery. Sure, Realme must have put some countermeasures in place, but again, 240W is a lot of power. Heck, my laptop requires a 65W charger.
Last but not least, it makes one wonder if we will be seeing even faster charging speeds in the future. I mean, who’s to stop these companies from releasing phones that support upwards of 300W fast charging speed? Considering how pushing the limit has become a norm here, in the first place.
Do you think you need 240W charging speed? Let us know what your thoughts are.
