While the cold-weather season has arrived in many parts of the US, many travelers may be looking for a warm-weather vacation where they can lounge poolside, and those who live in destinations with year-round sun could likely still use a weekend getaway that includes taking a dip.

As most states continue phased reopenings, those of us without our own pools may be considering booking a stay that includes one. While crowded hotel pools don’t sound too appealing right now due to COVID-19, secluded pools at private Airbnbs sure do. Of course, if you’re looking for a simple above-ground pool solution for your own backyard, we can help you out with that too. If you’re wondering whether Airbnbs are safe right now, we spoke with experts who said staying at an Airbnb as opposed to a hotel may actually be one of the safer options, especially if booking the entire house so there are no interactions with hosts or other guests.

Airbnb also recently implemented new procedures and cleaning policies, which include new protocols all hosts must now follow. However, there are still hosts going the extra mile and taking part in Airbnb’s most stringent Enhanced Clean protocols. We’ve noted new cleaning policies for each listing below, but keep in mind that without a vaccine there’s no guarantee of safety. Experts also advise guests that it may be wise to take extra precautions like bringing your own sheets and wiping down all surfaces yourself upon arrival.

If you’re okay with those potential risks and inconveniences, then Airbnb can be a good option for a socially distant summer vacation. We also asked experts to weigh in on other travel risks like renting a car, flying, and more, so you can feel safe getting to your planned destination.

We strongly advise following guidelines and advice from organizations such as the CDC and WHO, and practicing safety measures including wearing a mask, washing your hands, and maintaining social distancing. It’s also necessary to check travel restrictions and guidelines for the state you plan on visiting since many still have mandatory quarantines for out-of-staters.
