The Top Gear and Grand Tour star has now recovered after he first began to feel sick a few days before Christmas Day, The Sun reports. After Googling his symptoms, Clarkson was tested for coronavirus and warned he might end up in hospital.Writing for The Times, Clarkson said he was concerned his physical condition could lead to serious complications in combating the virus.“The doctor was very clear; I’d feel under the weather for between five and 14 days and then I’d either get better or I’d have to go to hospital.“Where, because I am 60 and fat, and because I’ve smoked half a million cigarettes and had double pneumonia, I’d probably die, on my own, in a lonely plastic tent.“I took myself to bed with the new Don Winslow book and a bag of kale and for the Grim Reaper to pop his head round the door.“I’m not going to lie – it was quite scary.”
Clarkson said his symptoms included waking in a cold sweat and a persistent dry cough, leading him to go into isolation. The star revealed that the new Amazon special of The Grand Tour had been cut short due to delays enforced by coronavirus.
The Grand Tour’s fourth season is set to return with an hour-long special emanating from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Before COVID hit, The Grand Tour’s original plans involved visiting Russia for another instalment for season four.
“In some ways it makes me a bit annoyed because I’ve got so little of the world left to see and I’m not getting round and seeing it.“I would love to be in Zimbabwe right now, or Iran, or any other handful of countries I haven’t been to and ticking them all off. But, I’m not.”
