The I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! contestant, who opened up about his own battle with coming out as gay, says he understands why no one has yet to reveal their sexuality.“I probably know about 10 or 12 footy players that are gay but they wouldn’t come out,’’ he said in a conversation with former AFL stars Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico and Travis Varcoe. The former Australia’s Got Talent winner added: “It’s a very masculine industry and you also have a really high profile so it would be extremely daunting not knowing, are you going to lose your career, lose your friends, lose your colleagues, what are people going to think of you. It would be a really hard thing to go through in that industry.”Dipper and Varcoe both said they didn’t know any openly gay players.“I played football for 18 years and I’m sure there were some gay homosexual people playing, but no one really came out in our time saying ‘this is who I am’ for the fear of being degraded,’’ Dipper said. “In the women’s league they’re out which is great to see.”Varcoe added: “You think about how many players are in (the AFL)….. 700. We have so much acceptance in our game for other things. It’s sad.”
