Apple is hosting a virtual event called Spring Loaded that’s expected to introduce at least one new iPad device and feature several important announcements from the tech giant. The event will start this afternoon, April 20, at 1 p.m. ET, and you can watch the livestream online.
Based on the invite sent to Insider, Spring Loaded will be staged at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, but members of the media will not be in attendance.
How to watch Apple’s Spring Loaded launch event
You can watch Apple’s Spring Loaded event online. A livestream will be available today on Apple.com starting at 1 p.m. ET, 10 a.m. PT. Apple recommends using Safari on iOS 12 or later, but the stream should be accessible via the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge on various devices.
The event will also be available to watch on YouTube via web browsers and the YouTube app on mobile devices, media players, and smart TVs. Though they’re scheduled to start at the same time, in the past, we’ve noticed that Apple events tend to lag a few minutes behind on YouTube versus Apple’s site.
What to expect at Apple’s Spring Loaded event
As usual with Apple events, you can expect CEO Tim Cook to introduce multiple new products; Apple launched the iPhone 12 series in October 2020, and its latest line of MacBooks with M1 processors in November 2020.
Reporting from Bloomberg and 9to5 Mac suggests that Apple will introduce two upgraded models of the iPad Pro that would feature an improved processor and camera, as well as support for Thunderbolt devices and 5G mobile data. The 12.9-inch version of the iPad Pro is also rumored to have a mini-LED screen, an upgrade that could lead to limited stock of the largest iPad due to global supply chain shortages.
Apple released the current iPad Pro in March 2020; new versions of the standard iPad and iPad Air launched in fall 2020 but the iPad Mini hasn’t been updated since March 2019. Apple Pencil 3 could be introduced alongside the new iPad Pro as well. In December, Apple reported that its iPad revenue had increased by $2.5 billion year over year.
Other frequently rumored Apple products could appear during the Spring Loaded event as well, including AirTags – Bluetooth adhesive tags that would let you keep track of personal items with Apple’s “Find My” feature. A new Apple TV is also a possibility since the current model has gone without a refresh since 2017.
Updated AirPods are expected to launch this year as well, according to Bloomberg, but it’s not clear when Apple plans to show them off. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also reported that Apple is working on new iMac models that incorporate new Apple processors.
