Surprise: The Lingerie Trend We Thought Would Die in 2020 Is Actually Slaying

OSTN Staff

Season after season we see lingerie of some sort work its way into the collections of dozens of designers. Between bra tops, slip dresses, and even garter belts, the ready to wear scene has certainly seen its fair share of the bedroom if you know what I mean. The year of 2020 was when we anticipated the rise of corsets and bustiers, in particular, but once the pandemic hit and stay at home orders were in place, we assumed everyone would put away their tricky trends and fall into a loungewear slump until further notice. While loungewear is certainly on the up, we have been shocked to see that corsets and bustiers actually weren’t placed on the back burner—they rose to the top.

Despite our lack of places to go and fancy events to attend, fashion girls proved their love of this lingerie trend all year long by wearing and sharing their favorite corset and bustier looks on Instagram. From the famous Dion Lee versions to Miaou’s kitschy take on the classic boudoir garment, it’s clear that there was nothing stopping the sartorial set from backing this trend with full force and we have the photos to prove it. Ahead, discover the multitude of ways you can style your corsets and bustier tops and shop some of my personal favorites along the way. While you might not think investing in a trendy top like this is the most practical of purchases, I have a feeling the looks that lie ahead will convince you otherwise.

Nearly every style of Dion Lee corset has made its mark on fashion girls across the globe. We love how it is styled here over the turtleneck and underneath a classic blazer.

What’s better than one corset? Two. Miaou’s assortment of whimsical bustier and corset tops have quickly become extremely coveted, and this layered look they posted recently has me in a complete tizzy.

This look is so easy to recreate and proves my point that this lingerie trend is much more versatile than one might think. All you need is a pair of your favorite trousers, a chunky loafer, and you’ve got yourself an It-girl-approved outfit in seconds flat.

This particular top from Miaou is at the top of my Christmas list this year and from one glance at the outfit above, you can see why. I love that while the print is bold, the coloring makes it easy to pair with any neutral-colored counterpart.

Dion Lee strikes again. This particular version is actually a dress, which makes it that much more impressive.

If you’re looking for a top that’s a complete showstopper, a feather-adorned bustier is your answer. Pair it with dark jeans or trousers, a simple heel, and I think your at-home New Year’s Eve look was just officially solidified.

This look is not only beyond stunning (hello, golden hour) but is proof that all you need to make your corsets and bustiers look approachable is your favorite pair of jeans.

Soften up an edgier corset with quirky pants and a chunky shoe. Trust me, the outfit combination will bring in compliments aplenty.

On the contrary, a softer floral bustier top will pair well with everything from a silky midi skirt to your favorite pair of vintage jeans.

I love how this (yes, another Miaou product) top is layered over a simple pink tank. The combination of that with the chain necklaces is a look worth recreating immediately.

If you needed another example of why jeans are your best friend when it comes to all your corsets and bustiers, here you go.

A look for the girl who only wears black.

While I love a ruffle moment, the simplified version below also really strikes a chord with me.
