Darren “Misso” Missen, 55, from Tamworth, reportedly died from blood clots at the local hospital eight days after he received his first AstraZeneca vaccination.Friend Mark Craig took to Facebook, sharing how “good mate” Mr Missen had seemed unwell in the days after the jab before his death on April 21. “I lost a good mate during the week … he was a fit healthy fella loved a schooner & a punt as we do,” Mr Craig wrote on Facebook last week.“Darren had the corona Jab (sic) end of last week was a little bit off colour at work early this week & died from a blood clot in the heart Wednesday afternoon.” A 71-year-old man with pre-existing health conditions also reportedly died days after receiving the same vaccine, according to the Therapeutic Goods Administration, which has so far linked six cases of rare blood clots including one death to the AstraZeneca vaccination. But there is not a “likely association” between the AstraZeneca vaccine and two men who recently died of blood clots, Australian health regulators say. Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) head Professor John Skerritt said on Thursday that although the two men had received a COVID-19 vaccine in the days preceding their deaths, “current evidence” in the ongoing investigation “does not suggest” a connection. “I would strongly caution the public and the media in reaching any conclusion on the two fatality cases mentioned in the media,” he said. “I know the question is often asked ‘when will you tell us what the answer is’, and sometimes, the testing is quite clear … other times, we realise that we have to wait forparticular tests to be done.”Prof Skerrit said the TGA’s “commitment” was they would always make a public determination on any adverse event “as soon as we have the data” from test results. The two cases being investigated are a 55-year-old Tamworth man who died on April 21 as a result of blood clots in his lungs, and a 71-year-old Sydney man who had ongoing health concerns and passed away. Prof Skerritt said overwhelmingly medical experts around the world agreed the benefits of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine outweighed the extremely low blood clot risk. “Knowing there is a small background risk of clots is something we do not hide,” he said. “But all medicines, all treatments, all procedures, driving a car, flying in a plane, have some risk, and in the case of these vaccines the benefits outweigh the risks.” He said about 50 Australians present with a serious blood clot every day, of which about a third die, and almost none have “any relationship to vaccines”.“It is one of the more significant causes of death in this country,” he said. “It’s important to realise that we’re not seeing a flood of these serious cases.” Prof Skerritt said the TGA was analysing 11,000 adverse events from COVID-19 vaccinations ranging from a sore arm to heart attacks a week after the jab. “For the more serious events, we certainly look at every case in detail, we discuss that with our global counterparts, and we also look to see most importantly whether there is any evidence of cause-and-effect,” he said. April 28: NSW man, 55, dies after COVID jabA NSW man has died in the northeast of the state days after he received a COVID-19 vaccine. The 55-year-old Tamworth man was reportedly “fit and healthy” but died on April 21 as a result of blood clots in his lungs. No link between the vaccine and man’s death has been established. The Therapeutic Goods Administration, the government body which approves vaccines, declined to comment on the man’s death. “The reporting of an adverse event to TGA post vaccination does not mean the event was caused by the vaccination,” the TGA said in a statement. “All reports to the TGA of death following vaccination are reviewed to assess the likelihood that the vaccine contributed to the event or medical condition that lead to a fatal outcome.Daily Telegraph – News Feed latest episode“This review is undertaken by clinical staff and includes gathering and considering relevant clinical information on the patient’s current and past medical history, risk factors and medications at the time of vaccination as well as any tests such as pathology and clinical notes, and where necessary involves discussion with the relevant state and territory health departments and the individual’s health professionals.”According to the Tamworth newspaper, the family member of the man did not blame the vaccine but was in shock. It was reported he received a COVID-19 vaccine on April 13. The man had been in West Tamworth running errands when he collapse and was rushed to Tamworth Hospital on April 21, the article states. He later died there. The next-of-kin who spoke to the newspaper, claimed they rushed to the hospital to be alongside the man and was told by hospital staff the man had a large blood clot in his lungs. He died in the hospital that night. Last week an autopsy was carried out on the man at Newcastle, and the family member was told there was no evidence of a pre-existing heart of lung conditions., the Northern Daily Leader reported. If the autopsy did show the vaccine did contribute to the man’s death it was not shared with the TGA, as they reported no news deaths as a result of the vaccine on Sunday. “During the past week, the … independent expert panel to assess(ed) three additional suspected Australian cases of Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome,” the report read. “ The panel advised that all three cases were likely linked to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. However, none of the patients is considered to be seriously ill. While the cases meet the international and UK criteria for TTS, two of the three cases appear to be milder forms of the syndrome. A total of six cases of TTS have been identified in Australia, with affected patients being 35 to 80 years old.NAT – Stay Informed – Social Media
