The eight part comedy, Spreadsheet, has been commissioned by Network 10, and its US owners, broadcasting giant Viacom CBS. The show centres around Lauren, a divorced mother-of-two and corporate high flyer, played by British actor Katherine Parkinson, who uses a database to help with her sex life.“It’s funny and inappropriate for linear TV which is exactly what we want,” Beverley McGarvey, chief content officer of Viacom CBS Australia said. “It’s edgy and authentic.”Asked if the show is similar to the iconic series Sex And The City, Ms McGarvey said; “I hope so,” and compared it to the SATC storyline where key character Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) is trying to balance her sex life, work life and motherhood.“It’s like those bits in SATC where it’s not just you and your friends looking beautiful and hanging out,” Ms McGarvey said. “Now you have kids, and it’s not as easy.”Ms McGarvey said Spreadsheet will have a “distinct Melbourne flavour,” but the edgy subject matter will show “different facets of the city.”The show will start filming in July.Viacom CBS has also commissioned the drama, Last King of The Cross, based on the autobiography of Sydney figure, John Ibrahim.Spreadsheet and Last King Of The Cross will screen on Viacom CBS’s new streaming service, Paramount +, launching on August 11.Ms McGarvey said: “It means more choice, more diversity of platforms. Some people want to watch what they want to watch, however, whenever.”
