Brynne Edelsten vows to fight ice charges

Edelsten, the ex-wife of controversial businessman Geoffrey Edelsten, was arrested on May 11 and is facing three charges relating to trafficking, possessing, and using methylamphetamine, known commonly as ice.A fourth charge relates to being in possession of property suspected as being the proceeds of crime.The former red carpet favourite and SAS Australia participant was spoken to by police who executed a warrant at a property she was visiting in Boronia.She was spoken to and let go, but later that day was arrested and charged. A man at the Boronia property was also arrested and faces multiple drugs charges including trafficking and possessing methyl-amphetamineEdelsten is due to face court on October 8.Edelsten’s arrest comes as part of a Victoria Police drug operation in the Knox area, called Operation Wipeout.On Saturday, Edelsten said she was shocked, saddened and distressed by the charges and intended to vigorously fight them.“Earlier this month, I was charged with criminal charges,’’ Brynne told the Sunday Herald Sun.“I am shocked and saddened by these events and will be vigorously fighting all charges.“I am very thankful for the support of the team around me and will not be making any further comment.”Edelsten, who has been working in an inner city bar, filmed the hit Channel 7 series SAS Australia in Sydney last month alongside a cast that includes former rugby league player Sam Burgess, Mark Philippoussis, Heath Shaw, Jana Pittman, Bonnie Anderson, Dan Ewing, Jessica Peris, Jett Kenny, John Steffensen and Manu Feildel.In a statement, Victoria Police on Saturday said police from the Knox station executed a warrant at an address in Boronia as part of an ongoing drug investigation.“Officers attended the Hazelwood Road property about 3pm and seized what is believed to be magic mushrooms, methylamphetamine, prescription drugs and an allegedly stolen electric bike,” the statement said.“A 39-year-old Boronia man was arrested at the scene and later charged with traffick methyl-amphetamine, attempt to traffick alprazolam, possess methyl-amphetamine, possess schedule 4 poison and deal property suspected proceeds of crime.“He appeared before court and was remanded to reappear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 3 August.“A 38-year-old South Melbourne woman was spoken to at the property and released without charge.“After further inquiries were made the woman was arrested and charged with traffick methyl-amphetamine, possess methyl-amphetamine, use methyl-amphetamine and deal property suspected proceeds of crime.“She was bailed to appear before Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 8 October.”Edelsten has been a headline-maker since she first stepped out in public as the fiance of Geoffrey Edelsten on New Year’s Eve at Melbourne’s Crown Casino in 2008.They wed in high flying style at the same venue in November 2009 with the likes of Jason Alexander, Fran Drescher and Margot Robbie in attendance. Edelsten appeared on Dancing With The Stars and Celebrity Splash and even had her own TV series My Bedazzled Life prior to their marriage ending bitterly in 2014.Edelsten was made bankrupt in 2016 over unpaid legal fees relating to her divorce.She briefly dated amateur bodybuilder Cemre Volkan following the end of her marriage. Volkan was jailed in 2018 for drug offences.In June 2017, Edelsten got engaged to Hopper’s Crossing comedian Brett Hunter but split soon after when she started a same sex relationship with her friend, Coby Boatman.That ended after two months.She was then seeing mechanic Leno Cachia for about 18 months.After they split she was not publicly linked to anyone until she stepped out with Melburnian Brok Eastwood in February. They separated soon after doing an article about their whirlwind romance with New Idea.Edelsten signed on for the Seven army boot camp series SAS Australia earlier this year.Seven declined to comment on Saturday, saying it was a police matter.SAS Australia will air on Seven later this year. fiona.byrne@news.com.au
