Daniher’s daughter, Rebecca, is expecting her first child with husband Drew Howell.Rebecca, who is the Campaign Manager for FightMND and works closely with her father on the charity, said she was thrilled to welcome her first child in November. She said her family, especially her father, was delighted.“I absolutely loved telling him (Daniher) the news,” Rebecca said.“It was a really special moment within our family to have that.“When dad was diagnosed back in 2013 and was told 27 months was the average lifespan, I did not think he would walk me down the aisle.“I had him there by my side which was beautiful, and now I am going to have a little one coming into the world and I can’t wait to put bubs in his lap and see him smiling down at his grandchild.“It is something we would never have thought we would have and I feel really blessed that that moment is going to happen in November.”The baby will be Daniher’s third grandchild. He has a grandson, Cooper, and a granddaughter, Rosie. The past week has been one of honours and achievement for the dignified and respected charity and medical research crusader.Daniher, 60, was made an Officer in the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday honours and the 2021 FightMND Big Freeze fundraising campaign, which saw the likes of AFL boss Gill McLachlan, Shane Crawford and Billy Brownless go down the Big Freeze slide at the MCG on Monday, has topped $10 million in donations.Rebecca said her family and the FightMND team were in awe of the support and generosity the Big Freeze campaign received from the community.“We had no idea the journey we were undertaking in year one but being able to see the progress that has been made and seeing the support that comes out each and every year just makes it all worthwhile,” she said.“The Big Freeze is a great opportunity for everyone out there who is fighting the beast to know that the Australian public cares about what they are going through and are helping to make a difference.“We know that everyone right across Australia has been facing so many different challenges, especially when it comes to Covid, so we are so thankful that despite that they have continued to support our cause as well.“It just shows the resilience of Aussies that they continue to navigate difficulty within their life but they have such a caring nature that they are listening to our story, as well as other stories, and are helping us to try and make a difference to people living with MND.”fiona.byrne@news.com.au
