Spotify is a great music streaming service, and despite a lot of competition, it has established a decent market share for itself. It has a lot of features that allow you to create a personalized experience. Based on your liked songs, playlists, songs you have listened to, etc., the app will suggest more music. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to upload your music library to Spotify. This will help the algorithm suggest better music.
Upload Your Music Library to Spotify
If you upload your music to Spotify on one device, you will access this on all devices able to use Spotify. For the upload feature to work, you need to have a premium account subscription. This upload feature doesn’t actually upload your music to the cloud. The app uses the location of music on your device and syncs those tracks to other devices using Wi-Fi.
Step-1: Open the Spotify desktop app. If you don’t have the desktop app, download it from here and sign in to your account.
Step-2: Click on your profile name at the top of the app to display a drop-down menu.
Step-3: Click on Settings.
Step-4: Scroll down and turn on the toggle switch for Local Files.
Step-5: Click on ADD A SOURCE.
Step-6: Now, choose the location from where you want to upload songs and press OK.
Step-7: If you have music in different places on your computer, you will have to follow step-5 and step-6 a few more times.
How to Access Uploaded Music Library
- You will find the music in Local Files on the left side of the app under the My Library option.
- Keep in mind that you may not find all your music here since the app only supports MP3, MP4, and M4P files.
Add Local Files to Playlists
If you want to access your music across all devices, you should add them to your Playlists first.
- Open Spotify Desktop App.
- Click on My Library.
- Select Local Files.
- Right-click on the track you want to add to the playlist.
- Select Add to Playlist and pick the playlist where you want to add the track.
If you want to open these songs on your smartphone, make sure that the Wi-Fi on your desktop and smartphone is the same. Open the smartphone app and download the songs to listen to them offline at any time and any place.
