Miami Swim Week Featured Tarzan Bottoms & Upside-Down Bikinis

OSTN Staff

Hot off the tail of Haute Couture Week was Miami Swim Week, which returned post-pandemic with a serious selection of swim and beachwear to enjoy for the remainder of summer (and beyond).

The four-day swimwear spectacle — which saw hundreds of brands, veterans and newcomers alike, arrive in Miami Beach — introduced a bevy of swimwear trends, ranging from Tarzan bottoms and upside-down bikinis to three-piece beachwear sets and flossy separates. Other standouts included crochet bikinis, belly chains, and cut-outs, one of the year’s top red carpet and street style trends. Clearly, after spending last summer in lockdown, making a statement with our swimsuit collection this year is a must.

Ahead, see every wet ‘n’ wild swimwear trend that made waves in Miami Beach.

Cut-Outs

If you thought the swimwear world was immune to fashion’s current obsession with cut-outs, you were wrong. From patterned one-pieces at the Emilio Pucci presentation to high-rise bikinis with under-belt holes at Jonathan Simkhai, this trend revealed itself as a top contender at nearly every show and presentation.

Tarzan Bikinis

Worried about tan lines? We suggest ditching the cut-outs for a day or two and opting instead for a barely-there Tarzan bikini, the Megan Thee Stallion-approved swimwear trend that leaves very little to the imagination.

Belly Chains

We saw them at the Chanel show on Lily-Rose Depp, and again in Savage x Fenty’s Savage Summer campaigns — the next stop on the belly chain’s route to the top of the trend charts? Miami Swim Week.

Upside-Down Bikinis

They might not be your best chance at going flash-free in the ocean, but, I’ll admit, upside-down bikinis look good on Instagram and runways alike.

Beachwear Sets

These days, you need a full look — including a matching sarong and crop top — for your beach ensemble to feel complete. See Boohoo’s show at the Versace Mansion for proof.

Flossy Separates

Tarzan bikinis aren’t the only skimpy swimwear silhouette garnering popularity this summer. Flossy separates, with strings that criss-cross every which way, are also trending. That said, like cut-out suits, you’re bound to end the day with one hell of a tan line. All to say: Don’t forget sunscreen!

Crochet Bikinis

Another fashion trend that’s creeping into swimwear? Crochet. And like Harry Styles’ DIY JW Anderson cardigan, these knit beachwear looks will have us knitting for months. Or not, if you settle for one of the pieces from Sports Illustrated or Boohoo that showed them during Swim Week.
