You already know how to connect to Wi-Fi, but did you know that there are multiple ways you can do this? If one way isn’t working out for you, you can always try a different method. In this tutorial, I will show you different ways to connect to a Wi-Fi network on Windows 10 computers.

I will show you four methods to connect to a wireless connection, and you can pick whichever you find easiest.

Connect to a Wi-Fi Network using Taskbar

You are probably already using this method.

  1.  On the taskbar, click on the network icon.

  2. Click on the network you wish to connect to.
  3. Check the Connect automatically icon.
  4. Select Connect.

  5. Enter the password and click Next.

  6. Confirm whether you want the device to be discoverable or not.

After this, the computer will connect to the network.

You can use another feature to disconnect the connection, and then after some time has passed, the computer will connect automatically. This is very useful if you try to stay off the internet for some time and concentrate on some other task.

  1.  On the taskbar, click on the network icon.
  2.  Click on the Wi-Fi icon to turn the internet off.

  3. When you click on the icon, you will see a drop-down menu for Turn Wifi back on. Click on the menu.

  4. Select the time period after which you want to be connected to the Wi-Fi.

Settings

Step-1: Go to the Start menu and click on the Settings cog. (Shortcut keys: Win + I)

Step-2: Select Network & Security.

Step-3: Select the WiFi option from the left pane.

Step-4: Select the Manage known networks option.

Step-5: Click on the plus sign next to Add a new network.

Step-6: Name your network, select a security type from the drop-down menu and type the security key.

Step-7: Check the Connect automatically and Connect even if this network is not broadcasting boxes.

Step-8: Click Save.

Once the network is in range, the device will connect automatically.

Step-1: Go to the Start menu and type the control panel. Click Open.

Step-2: Select Network and Internet.

Step-4: In the Set up a new connection or network section, click on Set up a new connection or network.

Step-5: Click on the Manually connect to a wireless network.

Step-6: Click on Next.

Step-7: Type the Network Name.

Step-8: In the Security type drop-down menu, select the applicable option.

Step-9: Type the Security key for the network you want to connect to.

Step-10: Check the Start this connection automatically and Connect even if the network is not broadcasting boxes. [The latter box is optional, and you don’t have to check this if you don’t want to]

Step-11: Select Next.

Step-12: Close the window.

Command Prompt

  1.  Go to the Start menu and type cmd.
  2.  Select Run as administrator.

  3. You will be asked, do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? Click Yes.
  4. Type the following command and press Enter: netsh wlan show profile

  5. Type the following command and press Enter: netsh wlan connect ssid=YOUR-WIFI-SSID name=PROFILE-NAME
    Where it says YOUR-WIFI, type the name of the connection you want to connect to. Where it says PROFILE-NAME, type the profile name. For example, in my case, the command will look like this:
    netsh wlan connect ssid=Pensieve name=Pensieve

  6. As soon as you press Enter, you will connect to the network.
