Pagey co-hosts Triple M Sydney’s Moonman in the Morning with Lawrence Mooney and Jess Eva. He’s been off air for the past four weeks with his co-hosts telling listeners he’s been on “extended leave” and was “having a bit of a break”.But this morning Pagey returned to the airwaves and revealed the truth, saying: “I have been in a rehab facility for alcohol addiction.”“There’s a stigma around rehab,” he continued. “If people can’t be open about it then no one’s going to talk about it and then that stigma grows.”Pagey explained he decided to go to rehab because he came to the realisation his addiction could kill him.“Honestly, it’s just the little man inside you knows,” he said. “You try to silence him and then suddenly you go, no, this is going to kill me.”The Triple M star spoke about his experience inside the facility, saying: “They keep you pretty busy. It’s a 12-hour day. At this particular one you get to go for a nice walk on the beach first thing in the morning. In between the meals there’s lectures, group therapy, there’s not a lot of downtime. The day does pass. There’s no TV, there’s no radio, there’s no music. You can’t take books in.”RELATED: Triple M star bans reality stars from his radio showPagey also spoke about the other people who were receiving help in the facility, saying: “It’s not junkies and whackos and freaks in rehab. It is normal people from all walks of life who have just let something, be it alcohol or drugs or gambling, they’ve just let it slide and it’s just over time got out of control.”The radio star said rehab was the “circuit breaker that I really needed” and added: “Now I’m in a really good place. I’m great, I’m the best I’ve ever been.“I just want to say to people out there, if there’s something in your life … something that feels out of control and the little man inside you is saying, ‘It’s time, this has gone too far,’ there’s help out there and there’s nothing wrong with it,” Pagey said on air this morning. “It might save your life.”Mental health support
