A teaser trailer and movie poster shows the Twilight star, 31, transforming into Diana for the upcoming biopic.Spencer – Diana’s maiden name – centres on three days around 1992 and takes place at the royal family’s Sandringham Estate, where they usually spend the festive season.Over Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Boxing Day, Diana realises that her marriage to Prince Charles has unravelled and re-evaluates the direction her life has taken. The trailer opens with royal staff busily preparing the estate for the arrival of the monarchs, including laying out Diana’s outfits, complete with tags for which occasion to wear them.It cuts to chefs preparing an immaculate feast for the royal family who are spotted for the first time from a distance at a long dining table.Kristen as Diana is then shown in a jarring scene where a staff member is knocking on the bathroom door, where a visibly upset Princess has been taking refuge.“Ma’am they’re waiting for you,” the staff is heard saying through the door, as a frazzled Diana looks at her reflection in the mirror. The trailer then cuts to Diana walking to dinner in a glamorous ivory strapless gown.A series of sharp edits show the family posing for a Christmas photograph and other scenes including Diana dancing, looking upset and standing outside in the cold.Prince Charles, played by Jack Farthing, is introduced in the trailer in a close-up shot, presumably snarling at an upset Diana. The trailer ends with a woman played by Sally Hawkins comforting Diana as they sit in the marshes. It’s the first time Diana speaks in the trailer, and it’s clear her dialect coach has earned their salary as Kristen pulls off a near-perfect royal accent.“They know everything,” says the woman. Stewart replies: “They don’t.”Many fans thought that the highly anticipated movie would be delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic but the countdown is officially on.Directed by Pablo Larraín, the movie will not show the Princess’s tragic death in 1997. It will instead portray Diana’s marriage struggles and her decision to leave the royal family. It was revealed in 2020 that Kristen Stewart would be portraying Diana in the upcoming biopic. However, the casting was met with fury as many fans felt the role should go to a British actress. In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kristen discussed the challenges that came with portraying such an iconic figure. She said: “It’s hard not to feel protective over her. She was so young.“Everyone’s perspective is different, and there’s no way to get everything right; what is fact in relation to personal experience.”This story originally appeared on The Sun and is republished here with permission
