With all but one team producing a home theatre in their basement, it was sure to be a competitive week on The Block, but the boys’ “commercial” and “lazily” styled design came nowhere near the other teams’ 9 and 10-scoring rooms.“It’s crap. Absolute crap, I’m just shocked,” Blaze said of their overall efforts. Ouch.Amid the season’s ongoing cheating drama, the other teams tried to hide their delight over the dismal result for the ‘cheating’ team, but it was clear they were enjoying it.Ahead of the damning feedback, the boys had been hopeful they were up for a successful week, with Luke telling producers: “The judges are gonna go down there and say, ‘Wow, this is a really well-thought-out home theatre. They have gone above and beyond to make it as realistic as possible and like you’re actually at a cinema.’”His prediction couldn’t have been further from reality. While fellow judge Neale Whitaker described it as feeling “down-market” and “like a bach pad”, Shaynna ripped into every corner of the room – apart from the life-size Iron Man action figure, which she said would be a hit with children. From the colour of the cabinetry, to the fluorescent-lit drinks fridge and crumpled brown throw rug over the dark grey lounge chairs, Shaynna called the style choices “dismal and lazy”, eliciting shocked expressions from the other teams.Motioning towards the popcorn machine at the side of the screen, Shaynna scowled as she picked up a clear glass cake stand filled with Natural Confectionery wrapped sweets.“Like come on, what’s that?,” she said, before calling the boys’ blanket styling “the worst she’d ever seen”.Neale chuckled, softening the feedback by adding: “It lacks finesse.”“It feels cheap and nasty. It’s crap. Absolute crap, I’m just shocked,” Shaynna concluded, as judge Darren Palmer uttered “Wow” to her ruthless call. While Georgia tired to stifle a giggle during the feedback, Ronnie – the resident pot-stirrer – led the awkward applause afterwards.True to form, the boys disagreed with the criticism, telling the camera: “It’s personal opinion. It all comes down to personal opinion.“I think it’s a great cinema room; we really enjoy it. It’s all about taste,” Luke added.Elsewhere during the room reveal, host Scott Cam addressed the elephant in the room, doling out penalties to cheating teams Tanya and Vito, and Luke and Josh.“I thought long and hard about this and I’ve come to a decision,” he said of the teams’ demands for the cheaters to face consequences.“I will be deducting two points from each of your scores tonight, effectively ruling you out of this week’s room,” he told the couples from houses three and four.“This will also give some of the others a head start on the domain leaderboard to choose the auction order at the end of the series,” he added.Overall, the boys earned just 19 points for the week after the two-point deduction was applied.Tanya and Vito, however – who admitted to being the first to see and circulate the production schedule photo – got off lightly, scoring a decent 27.5 before their two points were docked, bringing them down to 25.5.
