Fears after Covid case at airport for ‘hours’

Chief health officer Jeannette Young said a person who transitioned through Brisbane Domestic Airport on the evening of Friday September 17 later tested positive in the Northern Territory.The person, who arrived on flight JQ484 from Newcastle at 5.10pm, was in the airport for about four hours.“We will potentially be putting up information about the length of time that person was there (for), and the gates that they left from,” Dr Young said.“The flight that they came in on was deemed a red flight anyway, but we‘re just wanting to make sure that that person, in the four hours that they were at the domestic airport, did not move around very far, and whether they went to any food courts or any other areas.“So please if you were at the Brisbane Domestic Airport on the 17th of September, just keep an eye on our website today to see if there are any exposure sites.”Two other new cases were detected in hotel quarantine yesterday, one arriving from overseas and one from NSW. Monday morning’s “good news” update from Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk comes after more than 56,900 Queenslanders were vaccinated in a ‘Super-Pfizer’ push by the state government over the weekend. “That‘s the equivalent of having the entire population of Hervey Bay vaccinated,” Ms Palaszczuk said while preparing for a regional cabinet meeting on the Fraser Coast today.“But we need even more – we have got a sense of urgency here everyone, we have got to get people vaccinated because we don’t want to see our hospitals overwhelmed and our people sick, and the consequences that come with long-Covid if we get a Delta outbreak.”Ms Palaszczuk said the weekend vaccination surge means just over 60 per cent of Queenslanders have now had their first doses administered.Dr Young said 178,808 doses have been given in the space of the past seven days, with 1.78 million total doses administered. There were no new local cases reported in Queensland on Sunday, and just one local case on Saturday who was not infectious in the community.There are 19 Queenslanders in hospital with Covid and 27 total active cases in the state.
