The same figures reveal Greater Dandenong has 78 per cent of eligible residents with at least one dose, a jump of 39 per cent in a month, making the south east one of the fastest-growing areas in terms of vaccinations. The data comes as Premier Daniel Andrews announced that Casey and Greater Dandenong would be targeted by the government’s latest vaccination push, with local GP’s and pharmacies receiving government assistance to increase their ability to deliver vaccines. Mr Andrews said in a press conference on Tuesday that the south east was an area of growing concern for the government, with cases continuing to skyrocket. In the first round of support Mr Andrews said that of the more than 300 GPs and pharmacies to be supported, 92 were in the south east. In the same statement the Premier said Hampton Park, Doveton and Dandenong are “priority” vaccination postcodes, and new data will be released by the government that shows the vaccination rate per-postcode.For weeks, Dandenong and Casey have lagged significantly behind the state vaccination average, with vaccine hesitancy among the area’s significant multicultural communities and the younger demographic touted as the underlying causes. But at 83 per cent and 78 per cent respectively, Casey and Dandenong are now at or just below that state first-dose average of 83 per cent. Over the weekend, Monash Health told Leader that a walk-in vaccination push in the south east had delivered more than 10,000 doses across Dandenong, Officer and Frankston. More than 800 doses were delivered at Dandenong Plaza’s pop-up clinic last weekend and more than 6700 doses were delivered at Springvale’s Sandown Race Course. Nearly 500 doses were administered at St Francis Xavier College in Officer and more than 2500 injections were performed at the Frankston Community Vaccination Hub.
