The partner of wheelchair tennis champion Dylan Alcott said she was mortified by the clash with digital platform The Sex Ed, and had acted immediately by changing the design of her new release, The Sex Ed You Never Had.“It has come to the attention of myself and my publisher and our designer that the design of my book has similarities to the logo of a company over in the United States,’’ she said in an Instagram video. “That company is called The Sex Ed. And I’ll be honest this is a really hard situation to be in. I’m mortified. I’m actually really devastated for everyone that’s involved. And it’s really not something that I would wish on anyone. I’m sad for everyone.”She added that it would have been brutal for The Sex Ed to find this online and wanted to lead by example.“For that I’m sorry,’’ she said.“About The Sex Ed, they’re an amazing platform that does great work in championing sexuality and I guess for all of us sex educators we have the same vision of a really sex positive future.“We’ve just kind of ended up in this unfortunate weird coincidence here and it really sucks. So when stuff like this happens even if it isn’t intentional, things do need to change and we have acted immediately to try and resolve this. I really believe that it’s important for me to really demonstrate how to repair harm, so we have decided to change the design of the book and we’ve taken down past imagery as well. “I really want to thank them for their patience.”Alcott showed his support with a comment on her post: “Love you baby. Proud of you always”. Otten said she was proud of the book and grateful for everyone’s support.“So at the end of the day these things happen and it’s strange and it’s sad but it’s our jobs as educators to lead by example and it’s my job to lead by example here,’’ she said. “So when I have unintentionally hurt someone I really do believe in being open and hearing what they need and so that is what I’m doing. I’m really grateful for everyone, for their love and for their support and I’m excited to continue this journey of changing the messaging around sexuality.“All together as a team I’m really proud of this awesome book and what it’s here to do. I really know it’s going to help a lot of people and I’m excited for everyone to read it with a new cover. So thank you everyone I’m really grateful for everyone’s love and support and let’s keep moving.”
