Have no idea where you left your AirPods Pro? Apple’s here to help.
A firmware update (via MacRumors) to the company’s AirPods Pro and AirPods Max brings a cool new feature: Find My integration. After you update, you’ll be able to use Apple’s Find My feature on your iPhone to locate your missing headphones or earbuds.
Even better, the feature will work even if you lost your AirPods Pro or AirPods Max somewhere outside your current Bluetooth range. Previously, Find My was only able to locate them if they were nearby; otherwise it would only display their last know location.
The feature was supposed to go live with the launch of iOS 15 but it was delayed into “later this fall,” just like several other new features, such as SharePlay.
So how do I get this snazzy, new firmware update for the AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, you may ask? Well, there’s no direct way to force the update, but the option should eventually show up if your earbuds or headphones are paired and connected to an iPhone.
To check whether you have the latest update (in this particular case, the version number for the latest version is “4A400”), connect your buds or headphones to an iPhone, open Settings – General – About – AirPods, and check the number next to “Firmware Version.”
