The new figures comes as the state prepares for a restart to elective surgery from Monday after nearly three months on hold.
The non-urgent procedures, which include things like cosmetic surgery and hip replacements, will resume in public and private hospitals across Greater Sydney from October 25, according to NSW Health. Urgent elective surgery resumed earlier this month on October 5.
NSW Health Deputy Secretary Wayne Jones said it was now safe to restart non-urgent elective surgery now that the state’s population was mostly immunised against Covid.
“Thanks to the extraordinarily high vaccination rates across the state and declining community transmission of COVID-19, patients can now have their non-urgent surgery,” Mr Jones said.“
Non-urgent surgery was postponed in public hospitals in Greater Sydney from 2 August and most private hospitals from 23 August.
