The actor and dancer – who was also a judge on Dancing with the Stars – has put his hand up for preselection for the seat of Hastings in Melbourne’s outer south east.The 58-year-old is currently a councillor for the Mornington Peninsula Shire and an entrepreneur who runs his own food business selling spices and chutney. He is among four people vying to be selected for the seat, which is currently held by Liberal MP Neale Burgess. The battle for Labor preselection will be held on Monday. Mr Mercurio starred in Baz Luhrmann’s film Strictly Ballroom as the rebellious dancer Scott Hastings and went onto roles in Neighbours and Blue Heelers.
