SA Health announced on Monday night the Willunga Primary School became an exposure location after infected people attended the school on the day a whole school assembly was held. Those who visited the school in Adelaide’s southern suburbs on Friday, December 10 from 9am to 10.30am are directed to quarantine. Unvaccinated contacts need to quarantine for 14 days, seek immediate testing and get retested on days six and 13.Those who are vaccinated only need to isolate for seven days.But, only children aged 12 and over eligible to be vaccinated.That means the majority of almost 400 students that are enrolled will be unvaccinated, potentially throwing hundreds of families’ Christmas plans in disarray. The Education Department took to social media advising the school would be closed on Tuesday, including its out of school care service (OSHC). “If you are a member of the Willunga school community, please check exposure dates and times on the SA Health website and follow the advice provided,” the post read.“We will let families know as soon as we can reopen the OSHC service.”Chief public health officer Nicola Spurrier also announced changes to quarantine requirements for those who test positive to the Omicron variant.Initially, people needed to isolate for 14 days, regardless of their vaccination status. But, on Monday night Professor Spurrier said the isolation requirement was cut to seven days after an Australian Health Protection Principal Committee meeting.“This change will align with our response to Delta cases in South Australia and will be more practical to implement given that at some point it will not be possible to differentiate between these strains as the case numbers increase,” she said. Yesterday, there were 13 new Covid-19 cases reported in SA.
