In an interview on Sunrise, the 69-year-old Irish actor made the revelation while promoting his latest movie, Blacklight, which was shot in Melbourne in late 2020.“I loved Melbourne, I loved our Australian crew,” Neeson told Channel 7 showbiz reporter, Nelson Aspen. “I made a couple of pals and fell in love once while I was there, but she was taken.”The Academy Award nominee did not expand on his comments, with mystery surrounding who he may have been referring to. He added: “I look forward to going back, I really do.”Neeson is notoriously private when it comes to his personal life. His most high-profile relationship was with his wife, English actress Natasha Richardson, who died in 2009 after a skiing accident in Canada. The pair had been happily married since 1994 and shared two sons, Micheál, now 26, and Daniel, 25.Elsewhere in the interview, Neeson said he actually “enjoyed” the mandatory 14 days quarantine upon his arrival in Australia, thanks to special treatment he was given by nurses at his Sydney hotel.“There was two weeks of lockdown in Sydney, which I thoroughly enjoyed,” he said.“A bunch of Irish nurses, I would get a call at certain times of the day from a doctor who would ask me Covid questions … And then I’d get calls from Irish nurses (who would say), ‘Mr Neeson, we’ve made some Irish bread fresh out of the oven, can we bring you up some?’“I thought it was a joke … 10 minutes later I open the door and sure enough there’s about 5 or 6 nurses all in PPE gear with a plate of bread or Irish scones. It was terribly sweet.”Blacklight is now showing in cinemas in Australia.
