  • US House candidate Abby Broyles has been accused of shouting profanities at middle school girls.
  • Moms of girls accused her of shouting verbal attacks at their daughters during a sleepover.
  • Broyles said she tried a new medication that night and, after drinking wine, began to hallucinate.

A candidate for the US House of Representatives who was accused of shouting profanities at a group of middle school girls during a Valentine’s Day sleepover says the incident happened after she mixed wine with a new medication.

Abby Broyles, a current candidate for Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District seat in the US House of Representatives, is accused of verbally attacking a group of 12- and 13-year-old girls at a slumber party hosted by her friend, who is the mother of one of the girls, KFOR News reported

Parents of girls who were present at the party told KFOR News that Broyles was fine when the party began, but said that as she began drinking wine, she became aggressive.

The parents told the online news outlet NonDoc that Broyles called one girl a “Hispanic fucker,” another “acne fucker,” and brought one girl to tears.

Broyles told KFOR News she ended up at the event by invitation of her good friend who was hosting the party for her daughter.

She told KFOR News that she and other parents were drinking wine and eating sushi at the beginning of the party and that there’s even a TikTok of her at the event.

She told KFOR News that she has struggled with “stress and anxiety and insomnia,” so her friend — the host of the party — gave her a new medication to try.

Broyles told KFOR News that the medication, mixed with the wine, produced an “adverse reaction” that caused her to hallucinate.

“I don’t remember anything until I woke up or came to, and I was throwing up in a hamper,” the congressional candidate told KFOR. “It was the most awful experience that I’ve had.”

“I want to apologize to the families again, and for people who say I just blacked out and I’m making this up, you don’t know me,” she added. “I would never ever say anything hurtful. I’ve never, ever would say something hurtful like those things. And that’s why I know I was not in my right mind. I know that that’s what happened because of that combination of things. And I deeply, deeply regret it.”

She continued: “I want to say sorry from the bottom of my heart, I apologize for any hurt or damage or trauma that my behavior, when I didn’t know what I was doing, caused. I’m deeply sorry.”

Despite her later admission, Broyles initially denied reports that she was at the party when local outlet NonDoc first reported the news

“I never told them that I wasn’t there. I said it didn’t happen because he was asking about these allegations,” she told KFOR News of her initial denial. “And I had no idea because, again, I don’t remember this episode at all.”

Abby Broyles did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
