Billionaire’s superyacht moored in Melbourne

OSTN Staff

The luxury floating palace called Australia cruised into Docklands on February 23 and parked at the windswept and not exactly bustling New Quay Promenade. While the boat’s purpose in Melbourne was a mystery, the identity of its owner was not.Australia, which attracted surprisingly little attention during its stay in town, has been widely reported as being owned by maverick politician and businessman Clive Palmer. The 56m superyacht was sold in December 2020 with a $40 million price tag attached. The Italian-made superyacht has undergone several name changes since it was built in 2012, previously being known as Bash and Ulysses before being renamed in May last year. The not so little runabout, which can accommodate 12 guests and 13 crew, sounds like a floating hotel in online descriptions. It has an owner’s suite, a split-level space with an observation lounge, and a kingsize bed. The “VIP suite” boasts huge windows overlooking the bridge deck, and two double staterooms and two twin staterooms are positioned on the lower deck. There is a sky lounge, a 12 seat jacuzzi, wet bar, pizza oven and outdoor cinema. The beach club lower deck offers easy access to the water with storage for several jet skis, a water slide, and even a floating swimming pool.In 2019, when known as Bash, the vessel was featured in the documentary series ‘World’s Most Luxurious Yachts’.Prior to changing owners and being renamed as Australia, the boat was available for charter in the Mediterranean with rates starting at €294,000 ($460,000) a week in the low season rising to €322,000 in the high season.Australia left Melbourne on Thursday and is now in Hobart. It was not the only vessel of considerable size docked at the Docklands last week. Sitting beside Australia was an eye catching boat named Batavia. The striking and substantial boat called Glaze was in the next docking bay, while another sizeable boat, My True Blue, was anchored nearby.
