After a 13-year hiatus, Rob Mills has pulled on his dancing shoes and is doing the cha-cha all over again on Dancing With The Stars: All Stars. The ballroom may not be the most natural place for the singer, but together with his dance partner Alarna Donovan he is hoping to whirl and twirl his way to take home the famed mirror ball trophy. “At the end of the day we’re having fun too, and in these times, that’s what matters most.” Looking forward, Rob says he would like to continue to work in TV and is gunning for a presenting role in Australian Idol – the show that launched his career in 2003. “I’m putting it out there. It’s coming up to 20 years since I was on. I would love for it to return and to be able to nurture new talent,” he says.Melburnian Rob and his fiance, reporter Georgie Tunny, decamped to Sydney on New Year’s Eve, moving into an apartment in the inner-city. Since then Rob has spent most of his time flitting between the two cities for work, but is looking forward to getting acquainted with his new digs and neighbourhood. “We had our friends in Sydney go to open homes for us. This place has city views and lots of natural light. It’s also close to public transport in a gem of a building so to secure this place we had to pay six months’ rent in advance,” says Rob. “It was well worth it. We had already missed out on a couple of places.”Words: Catherine Nikas-Boulos Pictures: Darren Leigh Roberts I’ve had my motorbike licence for a few years now but Georgie is not that keen on a motorbike. I’ve convinced her the scooter is a great way to get around the neighbourhood. We love having plants in the house. It’s super important to remind yourself that you’re not the most important thing and it’s good to look after something else. Plus they clean the air.I was never a massive coffee drinker through my teens and in my 20s. I was in my 30s when I started drinking coffee and now I am nearly 40 and I love the ritual of it. I am not a coffee snob though, I will drink any coffee brand. This is just a small sample of the books we have all over the house. Trent Dalton’s book Boy Swallows Universe actually got me through lockdown and Bill Bryson’s Down Under is another favourite. I love my AFL. There’s a bunch of us in the arts community who get together every Sunday for a kick-around. It’s a nice camaraderie and it’s important for blokes to have that as they get older. I was walking through Hitler’s tea house and there were little kids running through a tunnel. I took this picture with my phone. It just seemed so perfect – metaphorically they’re breaking free and running towards the light.I borrowed this from Jemma Rix. We were on the production of Wicked together and I asked her if I could bring it to Sydney. I love performing and when people come over they jump on and play a song with me. I think tennis is an excellent adult catch-up kind of sport. Playing doubles is a great way to see friends and get in some exercise. I like watching the oldies play too, I want to be like them when I am older.
