The former Silverchair frontman will admit himself to a treatment centre this week after he was allegedly involved in a car accident near Port Stephens on Wednesday night while on one of his regular drives to road test his comeback record FutureNever.Johns revealed on Instagram he had been self-medicating with alcohol as he battled recent panic attacks due to suffering ongoing depression, anxiety and PTSD.After the accident, Johns returned a high range PCA reading of 0.157.“As you know, my mental health is a work in progress. I have good days and bad days but it’s something I always have to manage,” Johns wrote.“Over the last week I began to experience panic attacks. Last night I got lost while driving and I was in an accident. I am OK, everyone is OK.“Alongside my therapy, I’ve been self-medicating with alcohol to deal with my anxiety and depression. I know this is no sustainable or healthy.“I have to step back now as I’m self-admitting to a rehabilitation centre and I don’t know how long I’ll be there. Appreciate your love and support as always.” Police have confirmed Johns was arrested after his northbound SUV was involved in a collision with a southbound van in the southbound lane of the Pacific Highway at North Arm Cove about 10.30pm on Wednesday.Johns’ SUV had allegedly just left a service station and was heading north.The driver of the van – a 51-year-old man – and a 55-year-old female passenger were treated at the scene; the woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment and has since been released.A police statement said Johns was assessed at the scene by paramedics before officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District conducted a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.“He was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace police station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.157.”Johns was charged with high-range PCA and is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on April 11. The musician has been regularly engaging with his 90,000 plus followers on Instagram in the lead-up to the release of his first new music in seven years.It is believed he has insisted his team forge ahead with the planned release of his FutureNever album release to give him purpose while he undergoes treatment for his mental health issues.
