WA Health reported 8429 new cases overnight, taking the total number of active cases to 40,695.“Sadly, a male in his 90s with Covid-19 has passed away on Monday, but was reported to WA Health yesterday,” a statement read. “Due to patient confidentiality, no further information will be released.”There are now 194 people with Covid-19 in hospital, including nine in intensive care — up from six the previous day. Among the new cases, 3750 were confirmed via PCR tests, while the remaining 4679 infections came from self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.WA has a third dose vaccination rate of 73.3 per cent for people aged 16 and over. The state’s Covid-19 numbers had been tipped to peak last week at 10,000 infections per day but that never eventuated. It led some to believe the peak was not as bad as the modelling suggested, while others were concerned the virus was going undetected in the community.Chief health officer Andy Robertson revised predictions, suggesting the peak could be a couple of weeks away.Premier Mark McGowan on Tuesday dodged questions about the possibility of extending restrictions, which he had previously indicated would be lifted at the end of this month.
