TL;DR: As of March 26, you can get the Insta360 GO 2 for $299.99 — that’s over $100 less than the price of a GoPro.

The last decade might’ve been memorialized by perfectly captured single moments in time via Instagram and Facebook, but the 2020s are all about video. Today, we document every moment in moving pictures and showcase our epic experiences via TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram Reels. But our phones can’t hold their own in many cases — especially if you’re the adventurous type. That’s where an action camera really shines.

While the GoPro is practically synonymous with the term action camera, it’s not the only brand making solid products. The Insta360 GO 2 offers a worthy competitor, at a fraction of the size and at a lower price point.

Tiny, but mighty, the Insta360 GO 2 is about the size of a thumb at just 2 inches long and less than an inch wide. Its charging case resembles that of Bluetooth earbuds and doubles as a remote controller. When you pop the camera out, you can choose from the included accessories — a magnet pendant, pivot stand, or easy clip — for various mounting options. It was featured at the 2022 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) where major new innovations and trends are showcased.

Despite its small build, the GO 2 is designed to capture pretty epic video footage with 1440p 50fps, stabilized right in the camera or with software after the fact for even better stabilization. Since there’s no screen to view your compositions in real time, there’s built-in horizon leveling and FlowState stabilization to help you produce better footage. There are also fun modes on board like hyperlapse, timelapse, slow motion, and nightlapse.

The micro camera is ideal for capturing video during adventures — like hiking, biking, running, snowboarding, etc. — given its portability and flexibility. But it’s also capable of snapping photos and filming stable vlogs at home. Although you might be better off just using your phone for that.

It’s not cheap by any means at $299.99. But considering the GoPro Hero models go for over $400, that’s a pretty solid deal.

Prices subject to change.
