The Pharmacy Board of Australia earlier this year hit Maria Stogiannis with an immediate suspension notice, saying she posed a serious risk to the public.Ms Stogiannis last month unsuccessfully asked the tribunal to make orders which would have allowed her to return to work immediately. In written reasons for its decision, published on Wednesday, tribunal senior member Anna Dea described Ms Stogiannis’s views as “at best … misguided and, at worst … dangerous nonsense”.“It appeared to me that Ms Stogiannis had fallen under the spell of a world view that is remote from reality and is entirely inconsistent with the standards of the pharmacy profession,” senior member Anna Dea said.Documents filed by Ms Stogiannis include references to supposed links between Covid vaccines and AIDS.In its notice suspending Ms Stogiannis, the Pharmacy Board of Australia said she had “demonstrated a complete disregard to (her) obligations as a health practitioner”“Such conduct reflects flawed decision making and a blatant disregard for patient care and public safety,” the notice said. The board said Ms Stogiannis’s conduct would “likely adversely impact public opinion of the pharmacy profession”.The board’s legal team said Ms Stogiannis seems to think “those involved with vaccination will be tried, as if war criminals in ‘Nuremberg’, for manslaughter or murder”.“The impact on public confidence may be even more far reaching by virtue of your wilful, and persistent disregard to patient safety and flawed decision making.”The case will returns to the tribunal at a date to be fixed.
