- Breeze Airways announced nine new routes on Wednesday, four of which will fly cross-country.
- Westchester Airport in White Plains, New York, will get eight new routes to places like Savannah and Jacksonville.
- Breeze will be the only airline connecting Westchester with Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco nonstop.
Low-cost startup Breeze Airways announced on Wednesday that it is launching nine all-new routes this year, eight of which are from New York’s Westchester County Airport in White Plains, which is located about 30 miles north of Manhattan.
Breeze, which was founded by aviation entrepreneur and JetBlue Airways founder David Neeleman, will soon become the only airline flying nonstop from White Plains to three West Coast cities using its sleek new A220 aircraft.
“This is exciting news for Westchester County residents who are eager to have convenient flights to the West Coast,” Westchester County Department of Public works and transportation commissioner Hugh Greechan said in a press release. “We look forward to our residents flying with ease in a ‘nice’ environment.”
Neeleman said he is excited about the amount of time passengers will save driving to White Plains versus other New York City area airports.
“I wasted tons of time driving to JFK or Newark to travel to the West Coast,” he said. “Now we’ll offer daily flights to the highest demand markets from New York, with the state-of-the-art Airbus A220 aircraft.”
The carrier has ordered 80 new A220-300s from Airbus, with one delivery per month planned over the next six years. A total of 13 will be welcomed into the fleet by the end of 2022, according to Breeze.
The single-aisle plane features three fare options, including Nice, Nicer, and Nicest. Nicest includes 36 first-class seats, making it an attractive option for business travelers wanting to fly to the top two destinations from the New York metro area — Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Breeze’s A220 Nice and Nicer fare bundles include 80 standard seats and 10 extra legroom seats, respectively. Moreover, Neeleman noted that the planes have “half the noise footprint of past generations.”
“There is literally no faster or more comfortable way to get from Westchester to the West Coast,” he said.
The A220s will also fly to Las Vegas from White Plains and Hartford, Connecticut, according to the carrier.
Breeze recently made Hartford a base, making it one of the largest operators out of the state with 11 routes. Although, New Haven-based Avelo Airlines currently operates the most nonstops from Connecticut with 13 destinations.
Also added to Breeze’s route map is a new nonstop between Savannah, Georgia, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Moreover, passengers can book a one-stop flight between Westchester and New Orleans with a layover in Savannah.
Both routes will be operated by Breeze’s Embraer 190 and 195 aircraft, which feature an all-economy cabin of regular and extra legroom seats. Currently, the airline has 13 Embraer planes in its fleet but has plans to welcome four more this year.
