Some historical deaths had been reclassified. It brought the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 2,898.Victoria had recorded 8,120 new cases of Covid, with 449 people in hospital, 35 in ICU and eight on a ventilator, with 54,266 active cases of Covid across the state. It comes as Victoria’s network of vaccination centres begins to scale down, with only 30 state-run hubs still expected to be operating by the end of May. New Covid settings came into effect across Victoria from midnight, Friday. Under the new settings, Victorians are no longer required to check in with QR codes to any venue or show their vaccination certificates. And household contacts are no longer required to quarantine provided they wear a mask indoors if aged eight or above, avoid hospitals and care facilities, and are negative on a rapid antigen test on five of the seven days after their exposure. However, Victorians must still wear face masks on public transport and in taxis or rideshares, and in limited high-risk settings. Household contacts of Covid cases are also strongly recommended to work from home if possible and avoid elderly or medically vulnerable people.People who test positive for Covid are still required to isolate for the full seven days from the day they took the test.
