Whether you’re an Amazon Prime member or not, the launch of a competitor service like Walmart+ changes the landscape quite a bit for online shopping. For $98 per year or $13 monthly, Walmart+ members receive many benefits that rival similar perks offered by Prime.
But is it really worth it to subscribe to the service? And between the two, which will better fit your needs? Walmart offers a free 30-day trial for you to explore, but if you want answers before enrolling, we’ve compiled the four main benefits that Walmart+ offers upon sign-up.
Unlimited free delivery
The new face of the previously titled Delivery Unlimited service offered by Walmart, this feature offers exactly what it’s named for: unlimited free delivery. A wide array of product categories are covered under the umbrella of unlimited free delivery, “from tech and toys to household essentials and groceries,” all available as soon as the same day you order, or with one-hour pickup. However, eligibility is variable; you’ll have to enter your address to find out if you even qualify for service.
Walmart even removed the $35 order minimum previously required to receive free next-day and two-day shipping for online orders, but that doesn’t apply to groceries delivered same-day from your local Walmart store. The same-day delivery option still requires a $35 order minimum.
Members can order as often as they please, without paying a delivery fee outside of the yearly or monthly flat membership rate.
Walmart+ subscribers also get a discount on two-hour Express Delivery orders. Walmart+ members pay a flat-rate $10 fee for this service, bypassing an additional delivery fee charged to standard shoppers.
Scan & Go
A benefit intended to introduce touch-free checkout, the Scan & Go feature allows members to use the Walmart App to scan items in-store and check out from their smartphones. This benefit, which may initially seem like more of a chore than a service, allows you to not only maintain social distance, but also to skip the lines that usually plague the Walmart checkout process.
Fuel discounts
Primarily benefiting members with locations near them, a huge advantage of Walmart+ is the opportunity to save up to 10 cents per gallon when you fill up at any participating Exxon station, Mobil, Walmart, Murphy USA, or Murphy Express fuel station. 12,000 Exxon stations are currently eligible for the discount.
Subscribers also get discounted membership pricing at Sam’s Club fuel stations.
Rx for less
Rx for less grants subscribers discounts on thousands of prescriptions. A handful of them are even free in select states: Amlopidine, Celphalexin, Metformin IR, Escitalopram, Lisinipril, and SMZ/TMP. Some prescriptions are up to 85% off, but Walmart estimates the average savings are closer to 65% off. This specific perk is limited to paying subscribers only — free trial users are excluded from Rx for less.
