But that wasn’t the case for one unsuspecting reporter who found their face broadcast to the nation without warning. State and territory leaders descended on Canberra on Friday morning, stopping outside of Parliament House to have a quick chat with reporters as they filed into the building. Sky News was all over it, naturally, and went live to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews pleading his case for a 50-50 health agreement to be extended. But the doorstop ended earlier than expected, causing the cameraman to whip his device around to follow the Premier into the building. However, poor AAP journalist Dominic Giannini was caught in the crossfire. “Oh, that’s my head!” he exclaimed in shock as he tried his very best to dodge the camera.Host Peter Stefanovic, ever the TV veteran, didn’t comment on the awkward moment unfurling before him, simply offering “we just caught the tail end of that”. The reporter in question has taken it all in his stride, commenting on social media that it was just “the magic of live TV”.Luckily for Giannini, it wasn’t the only awkward interaction outside Parliament House on Friday morning. Despite the premiers having dinner together at The Lodge on Thursday evening, it appears the timing of their arrivals wasn’t on the agenda. So much so that the arrival of NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet “distracted” his West Australian counterpart Mark McGowan while he delivered his pitch to the federal press gallery. Mr Perrottet had tried to bypass the waiting media but stopped after being called over. However, he broke the convention of other premiers by not waiting until the previous had finished their spiel, gatecrashing Mr McGowan’s spotlight.
