The former child star who played Carmen Cortez in three Spy Kids films ditched Hollywood five years ago to “live her life for Jesus” with her husband, former popstar Carlos PenaVega, and three kids in Hawaii.Opening up in a new interview with Fox News, the 33-year-old said “God pulled her out” of her life in LA so she could focus on her faith and “learn how to be an awesome mum and an awesome wife”.Before the move, Alexa had been finding work as an actress in TV movies for the Hallmark Channel. The former actress and her husband, Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush star Carlos PenaVega, met during a bible study group in California and were engaged in 2013. They married four months later, going on to pack up their kids and move to Hawaii in 2017 to dedicate their lives to their faith.Speaking of their relationship beginnings, Alexa’s husband Carlos said: “We both met each other at this foundation-building point in our lives where we were both really hungry to grow in our faith. And that’s how our relationship started. And it was amazing because our entire relationship was based on bible studies, church and our faith.”The couple has recently written a memoir titled What if Love is the Point? Living for Jesus in a Self-Consumed World.Alexa told Fox News the book was written to inspire more people to get married.“We were just so excited about marriage and the idea of possibly sharing our testimony with others,” she said.“It felt like everything out in the media depicted marriage as lame. It took the holiness out of marriage. We felt like marriage was this dying thing, and we wanted to reignite it for people and get them excited about it again.”Last year, the actress made headlines for hitting back at people for judging her parenting after she accidentally severed her two-year-old son’s finger in a door.“Social media can be really frustrating,” she wrote. “But after seeing the comments about people questioning my parenting and assuming I slammed a door in a fit of rage … absolutely not. I simply closed the door. That is literally what happened. I know I will never be able to please everyone and people will be ugly to be ugly … and for those people all I can do is pray for them.”She explained on the night of the accident: “While getting the kids ready for bed, I shut Kington’s fingers in the hinge of the bathroom door. His first finger is bruised and a little bloody … but his middle finger took the brunt of it and was severed from the first knuckle near the tip.“They were not able to reattach the piece of his finger. Poor baby,” Alexa said after the toddler was taken to hospital. “But the other 9 are so cute! He’ll be more than fine.”As for the former actress’ Spy Kids co-star, Daryl Sabara, who portrayed Juni Cortez in the films, he is married to popstar Meghan Trainor. Sabara, 30, and Trainor, 28, share a one-year-old son, Riley.Since Spy Kids, Sabara has found success as the voice of Rex in Cartoon Network animated series Ben 10/Generator Rex.The Spy Kids franchise featured an all-star cast across the three films, including Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Danny Trejo, Alan Cumming, George Clooney and Tony Shalhoub.
