Phillips, speaking on the Howie Games podcast, opened up about selecting the donor sperm that enabled the couple to have their cherished family.“It is a massive decision. It is so detailed. It is like car shopping online, but on steroids, because literally you can pick hair colour, eye colour, height (and) weight,” she told the podcast.“Obviously different (donor) banks are different, but ours, it was so thorough, it is almost like you know the donor, who they are, you just can’t see them.“They supply a baby photo and an adult photo. The donors have options whether they want to supply these photos. You can hear them talk in interviews.”Phillips said she and Gahan started by each compiling a list of the attributes they wanted from a donor.“We were able to get down to three that we had similar interests in and that is when we started doing the more real in depth research,” she said.“Then we opted to look at the photos just to get a feel of who we might naturally gravitate towards and then you have to go on a waiting list, so not only do you have to pick it is almost like ‘well, are they available’.“If you are taller it is more expensive, it is like the pedigree. If you have got a very good education, if you are tall, you might be worth more.“A lot of these donors we found were medical students or college students that needed another way to pay for college. More so, when you are trying to pick a donor 99 per cent of it is around the background of their health.”Gahan gave birth to all three children in the US. Phillips said she was happy to share her personal experience to help other couples using donors and IVF.Phillips is one of the AFLW’s most decorated players and represented Australia in basketball at the Olympics
