Prince Harry delivered a keynote address at UN headquarters on Monday, which touched on a range of subjects including the climate, Ukraine and Nelson Mandela. Royal fans have taken to social media, accusing the Duke of copying a speech his brother Prince William delivered last year, news.com.au reports. One person tweeted: “Prince Harry just copied and pasted Prince William’s 2021 Church of Scotland Speech”.Another said: “I knew I’d heard that before. It isn’t the first time that he has copied William”.And another disgruntled fan wrote: “Have nothing to say don’t say BUT don’t copy your brother speech”.The criticism was largely in response to Prince Harry’s comments about his wife, Meghan Markle, and mother, the late Princess Diana. He told the UN how he visited Africa following his mother’s death.“It’s where I felt closest to my mother and sought solace after she died,” Prince Harry said.He said the continent was “where I knew I’d found a soulmate in my wife”.Fans were quick to point out the similarities with the Duke of Cambridge’s speech he delivered to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland last year. “It was here in Scotland, 20 years ago, that I first met Catherine,” Prince William said at the time.“Needless to say, the time when you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart.”Prince William also spoke about his mother: “And in the dark days grief that followed, I found comfort and solace in the Scottish outdoors.”During Prince Harry’s speech this week, he also touched on the Covid-19 pandemic and abortion laws in the US.“We’re living through a pandemic that continues to ravage communities in every corner of the globe; climate change wreaking havoc on our planet, with the most vulnerable suffering most of all; the few, weaponising lies and disinformation at the expense of many; and from the horrific war in Ukraine to the rolling back on constitutional rights here in the United States,” the Duke of Sussex said in his UN keynote address.“We are witnessing a global assault on democracy and freedom – the cause of Mandela’s life.”His speech did draw some fans, with one calling it: “The best speech by Prince Harry on Mandela Day, it’s captivating and motivating for Africans”.“Duke of Sussex delivered a powerful and moving statement at UN in New York today,” another said.“It showed that he is always in touch with people on the ground to understand their challenges especially.”
