G.Skill’s AMD EXPO DDR5 Memory Kits Cost The Same As Intel XMP Modules In Japanese Retailer Listing

Japanese retailer, OCWorks, has listed several G.Skill DDR5 kits with AMD EXPO certification and the price is more or less the same as the Intel XMP kits.

No Pricing Difference Seen Between AMD EXPO & Intel XMP DDR5 Memory Kits As Per Japanese Listing

The retailer has listed a total of 14 G.Skill kits which are part of their DDR5 Trident Z NEO (RGB) & Flare X5 series. All of these kits are certified with AMD EXPO supports which provide the best OC capabilities, profiles, and support on the AM5 platform. AMD has stated that using an EXPO DDR5 memory kit can yield up to 11% better performance compared to the native JEDEC speeds that are supported by the AM5 platform.

The G.Skil kits listed by the retailer range from DDR5-5600 up to DDR5-6000 and 32 GB capacities (16 GB x 2). The timings are rated as low as CL28 and as high as CL36. In the table below, you can see how the prices compare between the AMD EXPO and Intel XMP memory of the same specs by the same retailer:

As you can see from the table above, the difference between Intel’s XMP and AMD’s EXPO memory kits from G.Skill is little to none. The 2% difference between a few kits is going to be normalized at launch. As for whether these will be the official prices, then do note that the US regional pricing will be much lower since these include Japanese taxes. As such, we can expect most of these kits under or close to $200 US which is decent given their performance and specifications. G.Skill isn’t the only vendor which plans on offering AMD EXPO optimized DDR5 memory kits. There are several others who have been working on their own kits.

AMD announced that their memory partners such as ADATA, Corsair, GeIL, G.Skill, and Kingston, will have a total of 15 kits at launch with speeds of up to DDR5-6400 while DDR5-6000 is going to end up as the targeted “Sweet Spot” for the Ryzen 7000 CPUs. The AMD EXPO DDR5 kits will launch alongside the Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs and AM5 motherboards on the 27th of September.
