Update: Nury Martinez Resigns From Los Angeles City Council After Audio Emerged of Her Saying Fellow Democrat’s Black Son “Like a Monkey”

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez on Wednesday announced she is resigning from her post after an audio of her making racist remarks surfaced.

Nury Martinez was caught on leaked audio saying a fellow Democrat Mike Bonin’s black son was “like a monkey.” Martinez also had this to say about Soros-funded radical DA George Gascon, “F**k that guy. He’s with the blacks.”

Mike Bonin is a gay politician with a black son.

Democrat Nury Martinez attacked the child.

Former California Secretary of State-turned Senator Alex Padilla said he was “appalled” at Martinez’s “racist, dehumanizing” remarks and called on her to resign.

On Tuesday, Martinez said she would be taking a leave of absence, however the pressure for her to resign was just too great.

Martinez resigned on Wednesday.

KABC reported:

Following intense public pressure amid a growing controversy over racist remarks, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez announced Wednesday she is resigning her seat.

Remarks made by Martinez last year in conversation with two other councilmembers and a local union boss were released on audio over the weekend, in which she made disparaging and racist comments about another council member’s young Black son. She was also heard making racially disparaging remarks in the context of discussions over the redistricting of City Council seats.

Martinez had already resigned her position as president of the council. Now she is leaving the seat altogether.

“It is with a broken heart that I resign my seat for Council District 6, the community I grew up in and my home,” Martinez said in a statement released by her office Wednesday afternoon.
